Game developer Kotaro Uchikoshi, perhaps best known as the director of the Zero Escape series of games, has announced Project: psync as reported by Dual Shockers at the Spike Chunsoft press event.
The announcement was quite brief- Mr. Uchikoshi simply stated that he was working on a project and presented a single image relating to it. That's all we really know for the moment.
Mr. Uchokoshi is the director and writer of the Zero Escape games, a trilogy of titles that features nine characters who must survive a series of devious games put before them. The games in this series tend to be split between visual novel sections that lay out the story and gameplay sections where the characters must navigate an "escape room" type puzzle. The first two titles in the series Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors and Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward generally did well, but low Japanese sales resulted in the third title Zero Time Dilemma being put on hiatus. Fortunately, developer Chime stepped in and released the game in 2016, which given that it was a great finale to the series is something all fans can be happy with.
In Late 2014, Kotaro Uchikoshi was announced as the writer for the anime Punch Line. Going by name alone, it might stand to reason that Project: psync is somehow related to this series. Alas, it seems unlikely as the anime series had a game announced for it back in January as reported by Siliconera.
What Project: psync is, exactly, is ultimately a mystery that we likely won't know anything about for some time. Although it could be anything, the past experience of Kotaro Uchikoshi means that it has a good chance of being a visual novel.
