YU-NO: A girl who chants love at the bound of this world., the remake of the classic visual novel/adventure game is coming west via Spike Chunsoft and they have released more details about its localization before its launch coming October 1.
Releases for the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 will both have separate exclusive Day 1 pre-order bonuses. For the Switch, there will be a code for the game 8-BIT YU-NO’S GREAT ADVENTURE, a classically styled action game featuring the character cast from YU-NO.
For those who prefer to play on PlayStation 4, the Day 1 Edition will instead come with its own exclusive, a mini-cloth poster featuring Eriko Takeda, one of the fan-favorite characters from the game. The final design for the poster has not been revealed and the image released on the YU-NO western release website is a sample mock-up. No pre-order details have been released yet for the PC version launching on Steam.
Unfortunately, with all the goodness of pre-order fun comes news of slight game censorship and changes in the western release. For the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 versions of YU-NO, there will be a sunbeam used as a censor in the “Sala’s Oasis” scene to cover up her lower half. Additionally, certain cursor symbols have been replaced by the “investigation” symbol, without further changing the story or content of these scenes. The PC version to be released on Steam is confirmed as unaltered with respect to both of these changes and will be the same as the Japanese Switch version.
Written by Hiroyuki Kanno, YU-NO was first released in 1996 for PC and later ported to several consoles. Eventually, a remastered re-release was released in Japan in 2017 for the PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4, only making its way westward now in 2019. This version omitted some of the more risque scenes from the original game, just like the Sega Saturn and other versions did after the original PC-9801 version. Either way, YU-NO has been viewed as an influential visual novel/adventure game and will be interesting to see its first official arrival in western markets.
