Your Wi-Fi May Be The Reason You Are Losing Frames On Your Nintendo Switch

Given the fact that the Nintendo Switch is a portable console, you would think that any FPS issues would stem from overheating, right? Well, not really. A report over on Nintendo Life has revealed that the system's Wi-Fi connection as the culprit of the widely-reported FPS issues that have been cropping up recently, which is supposedly due to the fact that the console's Wi-Fi connection places an 'additional load' on the Switch's processor.

JunkRabbit, a reader over at Nintendo Life, stated that the Nintendo Switch's performance issues are present in Fast RMX, I Am Setsuana, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild have been remedied by turning off the Wi-Fi 'Auto Connect' option in system settings:

I remember the Digital Foundry experts to have been puzzled how some of the worst framerate issues seem to occur so randomly, not area-specific. I believe these are not the fault of the game, but of the Switch trying to periodically auto-connect to WiFi where there is no network available. This is supposed to happen in the background, but it apparently does affect the game(s).
Once JunkRabbit disabled the Auto Connect, the Wi-Fi problems disappeared. An 'anonymous developer' stated to Nintendo Life that a fix for this issue will be provided in a later firmware update for the Nintendo Switch.

Quick Take:

As someone who has been carefully watching any and all Nintendo Switch news as of late, it really seems like a never ending roller coaster of finger pointing and rampant speculation as to what is really causing the FPS issues on the Nintendo Switch. This scenario in particular is a clear example of the growing pains that the Switch is going through, although hopefully now that the WiFi (of all things) has been supposedly identified as a cause of lost FPS, a fix will soon come for those who need it.

What do you think of this news? Have you been impacted by FPS issues and tried disabling the Nintendo Switch's Wi-Fi autoconnect? Let us know in the comments!
