Final Fantasy VII Rebirth - Cloud and Zack

Square Enix has been sharing more and more details about the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake sequel Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

With a post on the game's official Twitter account, director Motomu Toriyama reassured those who haven't played the first game of the series that they can enjoy the sequel without feeling left out.

Q: Do I need to play Final Fantasy VII Remake to enjoy Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

A: No. We have made preparations so that players who did not get a chance to play the first game can fully enjoy Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

No information has been provided on the nature of these preparations, but I'd say it's safe to assume that whatever they may be, it's still better to play the Remake. It's not like there's no time before the release of Rebirth.

Recently, Square Enix announced that development is going smoothly and that the developers are working on determining a release date. Then the publisher provided more details about the game's world and about the story. The tweets appear to be part of a series of reveals, which means that we might get more information in the following days. They might even be ramping up to something bigger.

If you're not familiar with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, it's the second title of what is supposed to be a trilogy started with the Final Fantasy VII Remake. It was officially revealed almost exactly a year ago with a rather trippy trailer that most definitely brought up more questions for the fans than it answered. The game will come to PS5 in winter 2023.

Before that happens, we're going get the release of Final Fantasy XVI, which is coming for PS5 on June 22. If you'd like to learn more, you can read my preview and enjoy our interview with producer Naoki Yoshida and art director Hiroshi Minagawa.

If you're not familiar with Final Fantasy VII Remakeyou can read our review, in which our own Sam Guglielmo called it "beautiful, a ton of fun, and manages to bring one of the jRPG classics up to modern standards with few issues."
