Yooka-Laylee developer Playtonic has released a news post on the game's official website updating the community on the progress of the game's Nintendo Switch port.

The product of a successful Kickstarter campaignYooka-Laylee aims to be a revival of the classic Rare-style games of the Nintendo 64 era like Banjo & Kazooie. The game was originally slated to launch on PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the Wii U. At the time of the Kickstarter campaign, the Nintendo Switch had not yet been revealed to the world at large. The Wii U version was eventually canceled in December of 2016 due to unforeseen technical issues. Backers were afforded the opportunity to transfer their reward to another platform (Switch included).

At this present time, Playtonic is "very nearly there" in terms of securing a release date for the Switch. However, the developers have encountered technical issues with the Unity engine which has slowed work on the game. Playtonic is working with Unity in order to hammer out these last few hurdles, and once they've gotten these issues sorted they'll be able to get the game off to Nintendo for certification. Yooka-Laylee will have a release date as soon as it passes certification with Nintendo.

Aside from an update on progress for the Switch version of the game, Playtonic has added two new employees to their team. Josué has come on board to work as a developer focusing on gameplay mechanics and Anthea has joined as an environment artist. Yooka-Laylee is out now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One with a Switch version to follow as soon as possible.
