Xing The Land Beyond

Xing: The Land Beyond is a game that was successfully Kickstarted in March of 2013, and has been steadily keeping its fans up to date on the game's development since that day. Wednesday, in conjunction with the Playstation Blog, White Lotus Interactive made the announcement that the game would be coming to PS4 in 2016.

If you haven't been following Xing, in it you step outside of the normal role of a living person and instead experience the world after death. Seeking inspiration from games such as Myst, Portal, Journey, and The Legend of Zelda, you'll find yourself journeying across a number of mysterious islands, each with puzzles and challenges different than the last. This first-person puzzle adventure game is aimed at giving you a unique story told by the mystifying and spiritual adventure you'll embark on.

Players will uncover pieces of the story as they find etchings on stone monuments you'll find across the islands that make up your journey through the afterlife. The ultimate goal is to earn your freedom, but along the way, you'll also be seeking to free other spirits trapped between life and death.

Xing Environment

Xing: The Land Beyond has no combat or confrontation, offering players a serene post-death world to explore and progress through. You'll make your way through the game world as you seek to earn your freedom, helping other spirits as you do so, with each new island belonging to a new spirit who will assist with your quest in the hopes that you'll set them free too. To assist you in your tasks as well, players are granted the ability to manipulate the environment as well, summoning rain and snowstorms to help accomplish the tasks each island will set before you.

The environments in Xing: The Land Beyond look absolutely gorgeous and inviting, and the variety is superb as well, which means players will have a number of islands to explore as they make their way through the game. The game, which recently received a $12,000 grant from Epic Games, is currently slated to release on Windows and Playstation 4, and has already been Greenlit by the community.

Quick Take

I didn't know much about this game before reading about the annoucement on Playstation's Blog, but after looking into the game and learning about it, I really want to get my hands on it to explore and play. With the lack of dialog and focus on exploration and puzzles, it reminds me a lot of Myst and Journey, and I really can't wait to see more.
