Apparently fulfilling rumors from earlier this year about another content addition for XCOM 2, a brand new free DLC will release next week that's got tons of new Advent-slaying action.

On October 9th, 2018, gamers who own XCOM 2 and its expansion can download the XCOM 2: War of the Chosen - Tactical Legacy Pack for free. Don't wait, because on December 3rd of this year the DLC can only then be bought for the price of $7.99

But what's in this content? You'd be surprised at how much is included. There will be three new gameplay modes: Legacy Ops, Resistance Archives, and Skirmish Mode.

Legacy Ops is the bridge between 2012's XCOM: Enemy Unknown and XCOM 2. XCOM 2 takes place 20 years in the future in a timeline where the commander (that's you) failed to stop the alien threat in the early days of the invasion. Throughout Legacy Ops' 5 missions, you will take command of Central Officer Bradford, Lily Shen, and other XCOM personnel as you fight against droves of aliens and complete important objectives. There will be no base management in Legacy Ops - it comprises consecutive combat missions only.

According to the announcement, gameplay mode Resistance Archives will have players "engage enemy forces in series of tactical missions increasing in difficulty" while Skirmish mode allows you to "create and play your own custom XCOM tactical missions using the included editor that allows you to modify various settings (map, squad loadouts, objective, enemies, and more.)"

In addition to these modes, you'll find 28 new hand-crafted maps in the "Central Archives" mission - some might seem familiar too, as the developers are remastering several of these battlefields form XCOM: Enemy Unknown and its expansion Enemy Within. Also from Enemy Unknown will be new weapons and armor. Note that you'll have to complete the "Central Archives" mission in Legacy Ops to use the new weapons and armor in XCOM 2's base game.

There's going to be new helmets, soldier attitudes, and photobooth options for those cosmetic-lovers out there. New soundtrack options allow you to switch between not just XCOM 2 and its expansion's score, but also Enemy Within's music, or even an XCOM: UFO Defense-inspired track. Lastly, the Offline Challenge Mode allows players to fight in "all 100+ War of the Chosen challenges as often as you want."

More info will be released in the coming days up until the DLC's release.

Quick Take

Looks like I'll definitely be jumping back into XCOM 2. I'm most excited to play the Legacy Ops mode, since I was more a fan of the combat rather than the strategic, base-management elements. I'm also very surprised at just how much content is being offered for free. When it eventually becomes a paid DLC, I feel like it has a lot of content to warrant the $7.99 price.

Are you excited for this new DLC? Do you think there will be more XCOM 2 content in the future? Let us know in the comments below!
