Xbox Storage

For those who have pre-ordered an Xbox Series X|S or are going to pick one up on launch day, there might be another purchase you will need to make. Custom NVME SSD's for the Xbox Series X|S are now available to preorder on Best Buy and the Microsoft Store for $219.99.

Will a Custom NVME SSD be needed for my new Xbox?

Possibly. In the Xbox Blog post released today, it was stated that if you were to buy an Xbox Series S, games would be up to 30% smaller due to the performance target of 1440p. If games require 1440p, then they would not require 4k textures, making the game smaller overall. Of course, if you have an Xbox Series X you would have those 4k textures, so in the end it depends on how many games you want to store on your console at any given time. If you want a few dozen AAA games on your console at all times, perhaps you may want to invest in a Custom NVME SSD.

Can I use my old hard drives with Xbox Series X|S?

Yes. If you have an existing USB 3.1 HDD or SSD from your Xbox One full of games, you'll be able to use it for your Xbox One games and your backwards compatible Xbox 360 and Xbox games. You can even plug in both the new hard drive and the old hard drive at once, which is pretty cool.

Where do I get them?

Right now only Best Buy and the Microsoft have them, but they will be available at other locations eventually. Until then, stay tuned to TechRaptor for more details.

What do you think of this news? Have you preordered an Xbox Series S|X? Do you think you'll be ordering a TB SSD for $220? Is this something that might push you over to the PS5? Let us know in the comments!
