Xbox One delayed in China

Microsoft have pushed back the release of its eighth generation console from its original 23rd of September release date. No replacement date has been provided by the computing giant.

Microsoft made the announcement stating that “despite strong and steady progress, we are going to need more a bit more time to deliver the best experiences possible for our fans in China.” The cause of the delay is not yet known but the company will still be hosting an event in Shanghai at the Oriental Pearl Tower next Monday for fans and partners.

Console makers are dipping their feet into manufacturing consoles for the PRC again after being banned in 2000, when the country blocked availability of the foreign made consoles due to "potential mental health effects for children."

Despite the setback, Microsoft's Chief Marketing & Strategy Officer for the Xbox Yusuf Mehdi has claimed that pre-orders in China have been “beyond our expectations.”

With sales of the XBone ailing in the US, missing the chance to take the first leap into China is another missed opportunity for Microsoft. With Sony announcing in May that they would begin to manufacture the PS4 for sale in China, a leg up on the opposition would have been a major step forward. It remains to be seen what effect this delay will have on the companies fortunes in this race.
