It looks like the current Xbox Game Pass subscriber count has been leaked by Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick: Microsoft's game subscription service may have as many as 30 million subscribers.

Xbox Game Pass is a subscription plan from Microsoft with some ambitious plans for growth that has announced an expansion to more platforms including TVs, web browsers, and more earlier this year. Subscribers get access to over a hundred games at any one time, and higher-tier subscriptions also entitle players to claim free games, most recently with the latest Games With Gold releases for October 2021.

Until now, Microsoft has been relatively quiet about the Xbox Game Pass subscriber count. It may have all changed today thanks to a slip of the tongue from Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick.

The Xbox Game Pass Subscriber Count May Have Had Impressive Growth

The Xbox Game Pass subscriber count was off-handedly mentioned to be "about 30 million" by Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick in a recent interview as reported on Reddit.

"You've got about 30 million subs, Phil, right?" Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick stated on The Grill (at 34:35). "Something like that?"

"The last public number we've announced is 18 [million]," Phil Spencer replied, chuckling.

Microsoft had previously stated that the Xbox Game Pass subscriber count was 18 million earlier this year; these numbers were based on data from the tail end of 2020. If Zelnick's statement is accurate, that would mean that Xbox Game Pass has picked up around 12 million subscribers in less than a year -- an impressive growth of 40%.

With the expansion to new platforms and an ever-growing library of games, it seems that Xbox Game Pass has become a roaring success for Microsoft. You can join in on the fun yourself by grabbing an Xbox Games Pass Ultimate membership, and there's a great deal for members to extend their Xbox Game Pass memberships for 3 months at an 11% discount right now.
