The Gears of War franchise is growing. Gears 5 was announced in a big way at the Xbox E3 show, with multiple events taking place leading up to the game's release.
Gears 5 takes place in a crumbling world. Playing as Kait, you and your squad will adventure across the "biggest, most beautiful Gears world" to date. Your objective: uncover the origins of the Locust. The deep campaign will be paired with four thrilling modes to keep players entertained for hours.
"Escape" is a new high-stakes multiplayer mode where players must take out enemy hives from within. The "Map Builder" allows players to customize Escape maps and share them with friends to add some extra challenges. The new "Versus" mode will debut in July with Xbox Game Pass or by preordering at select retailers and includes several competitive game types. Finally, "Horde" mode will debut in August and give characters special abilities that can shift the tides of battles.
Gears 5 is releasing September 10. Enjoy the new iteration of the Versus multiplayer tech test on July 17. If you're at Gamescom in August, you can try Horde Mode.
For those who preorder any version of Gears 5, you'll be treated to a Terminator pack for free at launch. Teaming up with Paramount Pictures and Skydance Media, two iconic film characters will be making their way into Gears 5 before returning to the big screen in Terminator Dark Fate on November 1. Sarah Connor and the Terminator T-800 Endoskeleton will make appearances as playable multiplayer characters in the Terminator Dark Fate Character Pack. Xbox Game Pass members who download and play the game before September 16, will also receive the pack.
For the ultimate collectors out there, Gears 5 will also offer a Jack Drone Collector’s Edition. This special edition includes a collector’s box, a collectors booklet, an in-game Jack skin, and a functioning flying Jack drone. The Jack Drone Collector's Edition retails $269.99.
