WWE 2K23 Showcase Is All About John Cena's Losses

Thanks to a new trailer, we now know what the WWE 2K23 Showcase mode will be all about. You'll be following cover star John Cena's career, but in an intriguing twist, you'll be playing as his opponents throughout WWE history, aiming to recreate some of the most iconic losses Cena suffered as he was building his legend.

A new trailer, titled "Even Stronger", shows off some of the matches you can expect to play and whose boots you can expect to fill. Cena's most legendary opponents include The Undertaker, Kurt Angle, and Brock Lesnar; he's lost to them all, and in WWE 2K23's Showcase mode, you'll need to take Cena down all over again. You can check out the trailer, which is soundtracked to a snazzy remix of Nancy Sinatra's "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)" cover, here.

Cena narrates the trailer, detailing how he's had to "work to earn [his] place in WWE history" and faced "the agony of defeat" many times over the course of his career. Cena says he's been defeated by some of the best WWE Superstars around, and when you play as them during the Showcase, Cena will be "looking to get those wins back". It's a pretty interesting twist on the career-documentary Showcase formula.

At least one of Cena's losses will, unfortunately, likely be missing from the Showcase. One of Cena's most famous feuds is with CM Punk, but since Punk doesn't wrestle for WWE right now, it's unlikely we'll be seeing that one in WWE 2K23. Still, it should be fun to battle Cena as stars like The Rock, Triple H, and Randy Orton. In addition, if you're really jonesing for some CM Punk, you'll find him in the upcoming AEW: Fight Forever.

WWE 2K23 launches for PC, PlayStation consoles, and Xbox platforms on March 17th. If you pick the game up early or buy one of its flashier editions, you'll gain access to a whole bunch of extra content, including MyFACTION cards, Bad Bunny as a playable character, and more.
