World War Z is getting a sequel developer Saber Interactive announced at E3 2021, and it is World War Z: Aftermath.

Using the next version of Saber Interactive's Swarm Engine, World War Z: Aftermath is another 4-player co-op zombie killer, set in locations like Rome, Vatican City, and Russia's Kamchatka Penisula. Featuring 60FPS and 4K visuals on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, World War Z: Aftermath will have a new melee combat system, a brand new first-person mode, and feature all content from the previous game. Building on that, you will be able to cross-play with your friends on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S or PC.  Of course, with new player options, there are also new zombie monstrosities to destroy as well, which includes swarms of flesh-hungry rats that want to chomp on you and your team.

For those on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, or PC, there will be the new Horde Mode XL to take advantage of the hardware. It will have hundreds of more zombies on screen than ever before possible. Don't get too excited though if you want to play this right away, because it'll be coming as a free post-launch update.

There will be eight unique classes to level up: Gunslinger, Hellraiser, Slasher, Medic, Fixer, Exterminator, Dronemaster, and the new Vanguard class. Players will be able to customize their weapons and play through new daily missions with special modifiers for bonus rewards.

For those who are ready to hack up some zombies, World War Z: Aftermath will launch this year on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC for $39.99, with backwards compatibility available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S at 4K|60 FPS. In Early 2022 there will be a next-gen update available, which will include the Horde Mode XL. It will be a free upgrade for those with a PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or PC.
