From Fast Travel Games, the people who brought you silliness in Budget Cuts, and frustrating construction in Apex Construction, comes an entirely different virtual reality experience - a horror game set in the World of Darkness. Set in the afterlife, Wraith: The Oblivion - Afterlife marks the World of Darkness' first appearance in VR, and the video game debut of Wraith: The Oblivion.
While much of the World of Darkness is set on the alternate Earth it creates, Wraith: The Oblivion takes place in the afterlife (as the subtitle of the game says), and in the afterlife of World of Darkness spirits are able to see and observe those that are living, but only minimally interact. Wraith: The Oblivion - Afterlife takes place in Barclay Mansion and you'll be trying to decipher the mysteries of the afterlife, why everyone there died, and why the dead are terrified there.
Erik Odeldahl the Creative Director at Fast Travel Games said he was inspired by games such as Alien: Isolation, and Amnesia: The Dark Descent, and that he felt making an exploration and narrative-focused horror game would work excellent with World of Darkness. He called the ability to work with the World of Darkness, and specifically Wraith: The Oblivion a dream come true.
"Playing games in the World of Darkness story universe, whether it’s tabletop, traditional video game, or VR, lets us experience a dark, urban fantasy layered over our modern world. By assuming the perspective of a monster, we can gain a better understanding of what it truly means to be human. We're excited to be taking our first steps from the Skinlands toward Stygia in World of Darkness version 5 in such an innovative and appropriate medium. Death is only the beginning in Wraith: The Oblivion…” - Sean Greaney, Brand Manager for World of Darkness at Paradox Interactive
Gameplay for Wraith: The Oblivion - Afterlife isn't being revealed today, but will be later this summer at Gamescom Now. Wraith: The Oblivion - Afterlife will be coming to all major VR platforms when it releases.
