Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem developer Wolcen Studio has announced Bullet Noir, a gritty and stylish top-down shooter that looks to blend Max Payne with Hotline Miami. It's scheduled to land in Early Access later this year.
Like Hotline Miami, Bullet Noir will let you choose your approach; you can either break doors down and go in all guns blazing, or you can adopt a more methodical and stealthy approach to maps instead.
Of course, in Hotline Miami, the stealthy approach very often gave way to bullet hell carnage (for me, at least), so it'll be interesting to see whether Bullet Noir can pull off this mixture of approaches and make both of them feel rewarding.
Wolcen Studio is also promising a "rich, story-driven experience" in Bullet Noir, one that tells the interconnected stories of four distinct protagonists.
As you play, you'll discover how each character's story dovetails with the main plot, and you'll also navigate each protagonist's "personal journey", so there'll be plenty of narrative meat to sink your teeth into.
According to Wolcen Studio, each of the game's characters will also have unique abilities you'll be able to use to take on combat challenges "in creative ways". Each chapter focuses on a different character, too, so you'll get a chance to try out each one.
You can take a look at the debut trailer for Bullet Noir, which gives a sense of what the stylish art will look like in motion, right here.
If you're a fan of games like the aforementioned Hotline Miami, as well as adjacent titles like Otxo, you'll probably find lots to like in Bullet Noir.
You'll get the chance to discover whether that's the case or not when Bullet Noir lands on PC via Steam Early Access on November 4th. Stay tuned for more on this.
