Remember that rumor last week that the Wii U was ending production soon? Remember when Nintendo was quick to note that that rumor was false? Well, it seems like that rumor turned out to be true for the Japanese market after all!

This news comes from Nintendo's Japanese website, which shows the following text: 近日生産終了予定, which translates to "production is scheduled to end soon."

This will mark the official end of the Wii U's production cycle in its home territory and its biggest market. Over its lifetime, the system lagged behind the Xbox one and PlayStation 4 significantly, only managing to sell a couple million units during its time on the market. With the release of the Switch not very far off, it would seem Nintendo is deciding to start pulling their resources from other projects and putting them on the Switch project.

Details haven't been released by Nintendo as of writing this, nor do we know if the production is ending in Western territories anytime soon. We will update this article when new information becomes available.

I've been playing games since I was just barely able to walk so I might as well write about them.
