Today chief producer Katsuhiro Harada had promising news to share with those wondering whether Tekken 8 will support crossplay and rollback netcode.

Asked on Twitter, Harada-san appeared to confirm (sic) that yes, Tekken 8 will "of course" have crossplay support. He also explained why it wasn't implemented in Tekken 7.

Crossplay? Of course I will. BTW When the previous generation consoles were released, I had already proposed crossplay between the two platformers. However, at that time, they were at odds with each other over their mutual interests (and P2P security issue) & repeatedly refused.

Remember when they announced they were open to crossplay a few years ago? But in reality, they didn't actively support third parties at the time, and the hurdles were actually quite high. There are still some problems left, but it will be possible.

On top of that, Harada-san also appeared to confirm (sic) that yes, Rollback Netcode has already been implemented. Yes. Harada-san does not mince words.

"already installed it, and it already has what you want. The reason WHY we don't make big announcements like cross-play is Cuz even if we make big announcements, people like you will only say things like, "waaaa! That's normal in this day and age." So shut up & sit the hell down."

He also provided an interesting answer to a question on how many characters we can expect from Tekken 8 at launch.

"I think it's a lot more than Capcom-san. Of course, character modeling, rigging, and costume design are all new assets, so it's hard work. That's why we're trying to increase the number of launches."

Incidentally, Harada-san also teased that a default costume has been commissioned to an artist from outside Japan whom he has met on social media. He did not mention which character wears said costume.

Tekken 8 is coming for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5 and doesn't have a release date or window just yet.

Just recently, Bandai Namco hosted an extensive presentation at the Tekken World Tour 2022 finals, explaining how the gameplay will evolve from Tekken 7 thanks to a handful of new mechanics.

If you'd like to see some really spiffy character trailers, we also recently saw those dedicated to Asuka Kazama, Leroy Smith, Ling Xiaoyu, Jun Kazama, Jack-8, Lars Alexandersson, King, Marshall Law, Paul Phoenix, Jin Kazama, Kazuya Mishima, and Nina Williams.
