The Wildfire Mob will be making its debut in Minecraft Dungeons, 5 years after it was first revealed as one of two choices during a Minecraft mob vote.
Minecraft Dungeons has done all sorts of interesting things over the years. It released a season pass and it's even getting an arcade machine. The upcoming Luminous Night Seasonal Adventure, however, is doing the strangest thing yet -- it's going to give a long-dead mob a second chance at life.
Why the Wildfire Mob is Coming to Minecraft Dungeons
The Wildfire Mob has a long and storied history within Minecraft, and now it's finally going to be coming to Minecraft Dungeons. Strangely, this isn't even the first time the devs tried to get it into the game.
Let's rewind all the way back to 2017. Mojang made the decision to hold a Minecraft mob vote. A total of four mobs -- nicknamed Mob A, Mob B, Mob C, and Mob D -- were shown as concept art. Participants were allowed to pick which mob would be the next to get into the game. The ultimate winner was Mob B, a mob that would eventually evolve into the Phantom in Minecraft.
There were, however, still three leftover concepts. As today's announcement explains, Mojang originally wanted to get Mob D -- now named "Wildfire" -- into the Flaming Nether DLC. Unfortunately, they just couldn't get it ready in time for the DLC's launch.
"The cool thing about the wildfire, that sets it apart from other mobs, is its unique gameplay mechanic. It has four shields that need to be destroyed before you can do any damage to it. Now, if you're really strong and can destroy a shield in one hit that's great, but you need to destroy all of the shields before you can attack its health directly. It also does sneaky things like retreating whenever it takes too much damage and seeking out fire to regenerate its health. If it gets too much health back it'll make some new shields to protect itself with. It really is a tough mob!" - Minecraft Dungeons Game Designer Tom Pedalino
Now, Minecraft Dungeons is launching the Luminous Night Seasonal Adventure next week. This will mix up the Tower with some new challenges and also serve as the introduction of the Wildfire mob, five years after it was originally revealed in the first Minecraft mob vote.
