Bad news if you're a fan of alien wilderness survival games: there's an Icarus delay on the cards. Developer RocketWerkz has pushed back the Icarus release date to November, but there's a silver lining in the form of some upcoming beta weekends.
What's the reason for this Icarus delay?
Speaking via an official Steam community announcement, RocketWerkz says it needs to "ensure the game is the best it can be", so it's moving the release date back to accommodate extra development time. Although this will come as a disappointment if you were banking on the original Icarus release date of August 12th, RocketWerkz says it's confident that this additional time will "lead to the best possible Icarus launch".
When is the Icarus beta?
In addition to lengthening development time, the Icarus dev team also says it wants to expand the beta program with a series of beta weekends. Each weekend will help you to get to grips with a different aspect of the game; some will unlock new biomes, while others will introduce gameplay features. The beta weekends will run from late August through to early November, and there will be six in total. If you want to get involved in the beta, you will need to pre-order the game on Steam. You can check out the Icarus open beta roadmap right here.
Icarus lead Dean Hall says the team "wanted to do a smart beta", with each new feature being staggered across the weekends in order to obtain more detailed feedback from players. Hall goes on to say that the team plans to continue the open approach it's been taking throughout Icarus' development, involving players and the wider community as much as possible in terms of feedback.
What is the new Icarus release date?
You'll be able to get your hands on the Icarus beta starting from August 28th if you've pre-ordered the game. A full Icarus release date follows sometime in November, but unfortunately, we don't have a specific date for that just yet. In the meantime, you can wishlist the game on Steam, or pre-order it if you're looking to join the beta.
