If you like document thrillers like Papers, Please and Not Tonight, you're in luck. Indie dev Cindyz has announced Who Is Zombie, a document-checking game with an undead twist. You'll need to check the papers of survivors entering your colony to ensure they're not infected.
What do we know about Who Is Zombie?
In the wake of Papers, Please, more document thriller-style games are starting to show up. First there was Not Tonight and its sequel, and now there's Who Is Zombie, which is set in a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by the undead. You play as a "special inspector" sent to a civilian shelter to help them discern who's infected and who's allowed to come in. Naturally, you'll be faced with plenty of hard decisions; will you let a tearful refugee in, even though you can't categorically state that they aren't infected?
Like in Papers, Please, you'll work in your shelter across a 30-day period. In that time, you'll be faced with myriad difficult decisions, and you'll have to check newspapers to stay abreast of what you need to look for. New and dangerous strains of the zombie virus will also appear, and it's important that you know how to look for those as well. There are nine different endings to find, each of them influenced by the decisions you make while you're playing the game. Whether or not this one gets a short film like Papers, Please did remains to be seen, but Pope's influence is pretty clear.
When is the Who Is Zombie release date?
According to publisher CFK, you can expect Who Is Zombie to launch sometime next month. We don't quite know when in February we're going to get our hands on this one, though, so you'll have to stay tuned for more info. CFK says it'll announce the official release date sometime "in the near future", so we shouldn't have to wait too much longer. Guess you'll just have to brush up on spotting the telltale signs of the undead affliction while you wait.
While we wait for an official Who Is Zombie release date, you can wishlist the game on Steam right now. The game is also coming to Nintendo Switch on launch, although there isn't an eShop page live for it yet, so you'll have to wait a while to add it to your Switch wishlist. Perhaps, after Who Is Zombie, Cindyz could set its sights on creating a game in which you find out what's happened to the zombie crew of a ship, Obra Dinn-style. We'll have to wait and see what their next project will be.
