Permadeath and new customization have made their debut in Wasteland 3 Patch 1.3.3, a brand-new batch of content for this turn-based game that gives hardcore players some serious new optional challenges.

Wasteland 3 can be a tough enough game on its own, but some people are there are always looking for a challenge. Inxile has heard your pleas and launched the latest patch for the game in its characteristically brash style.

"You sick bastards," read today's announcement for the new patch. "From day one you've been clamoring for us to bring permadeath back to Wasteland, and well, here you go. Have fun watching your Rangers squirm in the snow choking on their own digital blood... reaching up to you through the screen, asking for help."

What's New in Wasteland 3 Patch 1.3.3?

The big-ticket addition in Wasteland 3 Patch 1.3.3 is permadeath. This option can be enabled for new single-player games and operates on a simple premise: a character will die (and remain dead) if their Downed timer expires during combat.

Skill checks are getting harder, too. The "Difficult Skill Checks" option will increase Skill, Attribute, and Perception checks by +2 higher than their base value (up to a maximum of 10). As with permadeath, it'd be a really dumb idea for anyone other than a veteran player to attempt to use this new option.

Wasteland 3 Patch 1.3.3 doesn't just add tougher gameplay modes, though! Squad members can now be respecced at Ranger HQ for a cost. You can change their Attributes, Skills, and Perks. You'll now also have to pay a similar fee when you recruit people at Ranger HQ, although this charge is thankfully waived for the first two Rangers you recruit. The cost for recruiting and retraining starts at $200 and increases 1.75x with each use up to a maximum of $3,000.

These new options might make you want to start a new game and Inxile is well-prepared with even more surprises — a total of 23 new character customization options are available for you to choose from. This is just some of the new stuff making its debut today; you can find out about all of the changes in the full Wasteland 3 Patch 1.3.3 notes. You can play all of the cool new content in this update by buying Wasteland 3 for PC and consoles via its official website starting at $59.99 or your regional equivalent.
