InXile Entertainment recently announced in a KickStarter update that Wasteland 2 will be released at the end of August this year. While an exact date was not mentioned, it is definitely good to see that Wasteland 2 is on track for release soon.

The original Wasteland game was a role playing game released in 1988 and set in a post-apocalyptic world. Wasteland was said to be the inspiration for the much beloved Fallout series that brought the post-apocalyptic setting into popularity. Eventually in Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, the franchise moved from the isometric view to the first person view that was the trend at the time. Wasteland 2 returns to the isometric view and incorporates a turn-based action point combat that was is reminiscent of Fallout 1 and 2.

After 26 years since the release of Wasteland, many of the team that worked on the original game have returned to bring us Wasteland 2. Given its success on KickStarter and that the creative forces behind Wasteland 2 are intimately familiar with the genre and franchise, expectations are high that Wasteland 2 will deliver an amazing experience.

In what is set to be a big year for modern party-based role playing games funded on KickStarter and returning to the isometric view, Wasteland 2 is definitely a game to consider if you like the post-apocalyptic genre or were a fan of the Wasteland and Fallout series. Are you excited for Wasteland 2?
