The Gates of the Celestial Realm Thrown Open

Warhammer: Age of Sigmar Storm Ground has been announced as a new game set in the fantasy Warhammer universe, developed by Gasket Games and published by Focus Home Interactive.

The announcement opened with a trailer featuring some characters that are coming to the gaming world for the very first time: the Stormcast Eternals. We then got to see a quick teaser for Warhammer: Age of Sigmar Storm Ground with some mysterious narration set to the scene of a battlefield in front of a massive portal.

"They have returned. They corrupted. Divided. Conquered. Until finally, the gates of the Celestial Realm were thrown open. Our last remaining hope. The Stormcast Eternals. Vengeance made manifest. Unbound. Unbroken. We will take back what the dead have ravaged."

Players will lead a "highly customizable force" through a non-linear campaign according to a press release. This upcoming Warhammer title will be a turn-based strategy game, although we haven't yet seen any gameplay.

Who Are the Stormcast Eternals?

The Warhammer tabletop game has a lot of factions and a ton of lore, so the casual player might not know what we're seeing in the trailer here. The Stormcast Eternals are an otherworldly faction of legendary heroes from the Celestial Realm. Essentially, these are angels made manifest to fight evil on the mortal plane.

In fact, the arrival of the Stormcast Eternals is what kicks off the Age of Sigmar. Sigmar is the patron deity and god-king of mankind, somewhat similar to the Emperor in Warhammer 40,000. Chaos has overrun the mortal realm and Sigmar has outfitted legendary warriors with powerful weapons, dubbed them the Stormcast Eternals, and sent them back down to the realm of man to fight the vile forces of Chaos.

When is the Warhammer: Age of Sigmar Storm Ground Release Date?

Warhammer: Age of Sigmar Storm Ground will be launching sometime in Early 2021. Unfortunately, no specific release date has been announced just yet.

It won't be too long of a wait for this upcoming game, thankfully. You'll be able to play it on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. For now, you can pre-purchase Warhammer: Age of Sigmar Storm Ground on Steam for $33.99 or your regional equivalent.
