The Beta for Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader is now available for players to hop into the CRPG from Owlcat Games. We were lucky enough to have a chance to sit down with Owlcat Games last week and be shown what the Beta will entail, and some key features that they're excited for players to get their hands on. The Beta for Warhammer 40K Rogue Trader is available now for Windows and Mac via Steam and GOG.

What's in the Warhammer 40K Rogue Trader Beta?

To start off Owlcat Games let us know that there would be a lot of content in this Beta. Players are able to play not only the Prologue, but also Acts 1, 2, and 3 of the game. It was clarified that this will all be in some state of "pre-final quality" but that depending on how you wanted to play there would be 60-80 hours worth of content.

While there are a number of pregen options to pick from players will be able to create their own character from scratch. With available options related to the Appearance, Homeworld, Occupation, and the Triumps and Darkest Hours of their character you'll be able to fully place yourself in the world of Warhammer 40K Rogue Trader. These decisions you make won't only change the appearance of your character, your Career will influence the types of weapons you have available to you, and your abilities can also be decided here.

It was also revealed to us that shortly into Chapter 1 players will face off in Commorragh, the Dark City. For this visit to Commorragh you'll also have a companion for the fight in the form of Space Wolf Ulfar. Another large point that they touched on was the updated Gameplay and Visuals of Space Combat. Visuals and gameplay have been completely rebuilt based on feedback received from the Alpha period. Those who participated in the Alpha will also get to enjoy enhanced visuals on the System View among many other maps.

The biggest takeaway from this presentation was that players will be able to learn about the beginning of the story of Warhammer 40K Rogue Trader, get to create their character, interact with a companion, and check out an explosive space battle.

How difficult will Warhammer 40K Rogue Trader be?

A view that was shown off was how customizable the difficulty will be. When first starting a new game players will be presented with the options to start the game on Normal Difficulty or the Core Difficulty. While there are a wide variety of settings that cover big mechanics like the Half Cover hit bonus, but also some very exact settings like the minimum amount of PC damage after applying Absorption and Deflection. You can pick one of the presets and get started or fine-tune any of these settings and more.

It's important to note that the Core difficulty comes with a large red warning stating "This difficulty is NOT RECOMMENDED for players not familiar with the Warhammer 40K Rogue Trader system".
