War Mongrels

Publisher and developer Destructive Creations has announced that the War Mongrels release date is set for October 19, 2021. War Mongrels is a real-time tactics title set on the Eastern Front in World War II. There's more to it than that, of course, as for the storyline, players will take control of German, Polish, Lithuanian freedom fighters fighting for their homelands, values, and humanity.

“World War II has been warped by a lot of other media, and that’s left historical blind spots, often intentionally,” said Marcin Stanek, Business Development Manager at Destructive Creations. “Stories outside of the American perspective rarely get enough visibility, and we aim to change that with an interactive and immersive experience.”

The Germans (who defected from the Third Reich) along with the Polish and Lithuanian freedom fighters will have to sneak through "occupied cities, barracks, enemy lines, and body pits", which sounds pretty gnarly. You'll also have to avoid detection and distract ex-comrades by using scarce commodities, playing music on some music boxes, or throwing rocks because it's World War II and there's a lot of rubble to chuck at people.

As this is a tactics game, you'll be able to use strategy. Shocking, I know. This means that you'll be able to order your fighters or queue up commands via the Planning Mode. You'll have the option to stick to the shadows and stealth your way through, but if your rock-throwing skills are sub-par you'll have to start shooting lead instead.

War Mongrels will be available for PC on Steam and Epic Games Store on October 19, 2021, with next-gen and current-gen ports coming afterward. You can pre-order now via the Epic Games Store for a 20% discount, so be sure to keep that in mind.
