Wadjet Eye Games, an indie publisher of excellent adventure games, is taking their first steps into 3D with the announcement of Technobabylon: Birthright. This upcoming game is a sequel to 2015's Technobabylon and is intended to be a continuation of that story. The soft announcement of this game was made via Wadjet Eye Games' Twitter account.

The tweet making this announcement also included some screenshots of the game and a good few details about what we can expect to see. Wadjet Eye Games' CEO Dave Gilbert joked that their games always looked 10-15 years out of date and the transition to 3D shows that "nothing has really changed" in this regard. He concedes that 3D may not stick around for future projects, but he "can't imagine" Technobabylon: Birthright being made any other way.

Previously, every single title in the Wadjet Eye Games catalog has been made in 2D, mostly through Adventure Game Studio. They had wanted to transition Technobabylon: Birthright into 3D, but Adventure Game Studio isn't well-equipped for that style of graphics. As a result, they've been learning Unity in the last several months and figuring out how they'll have to adapt their design process for the third dimension.

The change to Unity also brings with it an added bonus: Linux and Mac support. While Technobabylon was only available on PC, Technobabylon: Birthright is likely to have a Linux and Mac version available as the Unity engine makes it relatively easy to compile a game for different operating systems. It may well be possible to see it on a console or mobile devices if the developers desire to do so.

We don't have much more information on Technobabylon: Birthright beyond this handful of screenshots and some vague details, nor do we have any kind of concrete release date.  Hopefully, we'll be able to play it sooner rather than later.
