Indie game developer Vlambeer has made a bittersweet announcement on its tenth anniversary: the studio will be closing its doors in the near future. Thankfully, its upcoming game ULTRABUGS is still on track for release.

Vlambeer is an indie game developer that has released a good few games over the last few years, most notable LUFTRAUSERS and Nuclear Throne. It's currently working on ULTRABUGS, a fast-paced game where players try to destroy as many bugs as possible and attain the highest score.

Now, the studio has announced that it's closing down for good, ten years after it was originally founded.

"Today marks Vlambeer’s 10th anniversary, which is way longer than we could've ever imagined," began a Twitter thread from the company. "We had a beautiful run, made incredible games, and worked with amazing people, but it is time for new things. So we're announcing the end of Vlambeer."

"Before we say more: yes, ULTRABUGS is still coming out," the thread continued. "We will have news about that soon! We are also looking into options for further support for some of our earlier games, but we just can't promise anything besides that there will be no new games.

"It's not a sad day for us, but the happy conclusion to a whirlwind decade filled with screenshake. It feels like we've achieved what we set out to do - as a studio, as a voice, and as individuals, and we are extremely grateful for these past years."

Vlambeer Marks Closure with Steam Sale and Prototype Release

Although the closure of this company might be sad to some, there's some good news — Vlambeer is currently having a sale on its games on Steam, with discounts ranging from 50–75%.

Additionally, the company has released a prototype of its very first game FFFLOOD on Itch.io. This fast-paced game sought to put a new spin on the tower defense genre by forcing players to think on their feet while not necessarily punishing small mistakes.

Vlambeer has done a pretty good job over the last ten years. We don't yet know what's in store for the company's two founding members, but they're sure to come up with something interesting with whatever it is they do. In the meantime, you should add ULTRABUGS to your wishlist on Steam so you don't miss out on its launch!
