With the new Star Wars movie hitting theaters this week and the November release of the highly anticipated Star Wars: Battlefront, you'd think Star Wars fervor would be hitting critical mass...but you'd be very wrong.

On December 7th, A job opportunity from publisher EA Studios and game developer Visceral Games was posted for a Senior Game Designer, but with a detail that gave a hint as to the new type of game being developed.

The hint for the new project came in the form of the following headline:

"BRING YOUR SYSTEM GAME DESIGN SKILLS AND SAVVY AND YOUR LOVE OF STAR WARS TO VISCERAL GAMES, EMBRACING AND CONTRIBUTING TO THE PROJECT VISION IN AREAS OF HERO CONTROL/MECHANICS, AI BEHAVIORS, COMBAT/WEAPONS, CLASS DESIGN, SKILLS/PROGRESSION, ENEMY DESIGN, STORY AND BOSS ENCOUNTERS."*

As you can see from the description, this new project will be Star Wars-based. On top of that, it’s also being headed by Jade Raymond who is notable for her production credits in several Assassin’s Creed games as well as Watch Dogs. Joining Raymond is another familiar face - that of Amy Hennig, who is best known for writing Soul Reaver 2, Legacy of Kain: Defiance, and the Uncharted series. The combination of Raymond and Hennig could bode very well for the new Star Wars title considering the success and critical acclaim their work has seen in the past.

Though any other details regarding the project are scarce, more information should pop up in the coming year.

What do you think? Does this new project have the makings of a brilliant game or is too soon to tell?

Quick Take

Whether your Star Wars fanboy or not, this is very exciting news. If Visceral is able to develop an open RPG Star Wars game that follows similar mechanics to sandbox games like Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, or the Fallout series, but also provides an interesting story, it will be a guaranteed hit...one that even EA couldn't ruin with an over-abundance of micro-transactions.
