Vicarious PR has announced the first title to come from its new publishing wing Vicarious Publishing. My Beautiful Paper Smile is a psychological horror game coming in 2020.

In a press release, Vicarious Publishing describes My Beautiful Paper Smile as a game about "children trapped in a facility raising them to be perfect". You'll take on the role of one of the kids stuck in this facility, a "Joyous". The protagonist doesn't feel happy about everything that's going on in the facility and so endeavors to escape. This brings about what Vicarious is calling a "gripping storyline about children's imprisonment". Check out the trailer for My Beautiful Paper Smile below:

Vicarious Publishing and developer Two Star Games are promising a four-chapter experience in My Beautiful Paper Smile. Michael Brown, CEO of Vicarious Publishing, says the game "puts childhood experiences of mental health into perspective" in a horror setting. Your overall goal is to escape the authorities' "education" facility and discover the reason behind its existence along the way. It'll be an episodic game, with future episodes releasing as paid DLC. There will also be a discounted four-chapter bundle once they're all done.

We're not entirely sure exactly what the gameplay in My Beautiful Paper Smile will look like yet. Two Star and Vicarious are pitching it as a horror puzzle game; you'll solve "tension-inducing puzzles" as you discover more of the game's backstory. There's also a rather menacing-sounding "Faceless One" you'll have to run away from. We'll doubtless learn more about the gameplay systems in My Beautiful Paper Smile as we get nearer to release.

My Beautiful Paper Smile launches for PC via Steam in 2020. You can wishlist the game right now if you're interested. No word yet on a release for other platforms or a concrete date. We'll bring you more on this game as we get it.

Dark Souls changed my life, and I'm here to spread the good news. I like pretty much all sorts of games, but I judge everything by its proximity to our Lord and saviour, Dark Souls.
