Indie publisher DANGEN Entertainment announced today that Japanese SRPG Vestaria Saga will be released in English sometime next year. RPGamer first noted that it would be coming to Steam in English. A demo is coming too, with DANGEN announcing that it will be available on August 16th. Vestaria Saga was developed by legendary Japanese creator Shouzou Kaga. Known for being the mind behind the original Fire Emblem series, Kaga developed the first six Fire Emblem games (as well as other titles) before leaving to found his own company. Vesteria Saga is his first game since 2005, and we get our chance to dive into his world sometime next year.

Vestaria Saga is the story of a struggle between an expansive empire and a small coastal nation. When an imperial ship is burned in the port of Meleda, the young Zadrian and his band of knights are thrust into an expansive conflict that threatens the entire continent. Fleeing with the Meledan princess in tow, Zade must run from an overwhelming imperial force, monsters, and other dark conspirators. Coming with full support for both keyboard and mouse setups and your controller of choice, Vestaria Saga promises a pair of "finely tuned" difficulty settings for veterans and newcomers alike.

Fire Emblem's lineage is immediately obvious from the trailer and screenshots. From the battle UI to the overworld, the influence is everywhere. Still, PC strategy RPG fans are in readily short supply of games, Japanese or otherwise. Unsurprisingly, the announcement for Vestaria Saga is well-timed due to the impending release of SRPG Studio. Previously only available in Japan, SRPG Studio was a developmental offshoot of RPG Maker many years ago, and it was used to develop Vestaria Saga. With the talent behind Vestaria Saga and potential for new SRPG games on Steam, we may well see a rise of strategy indie developers. Until then, you can check out Vestaria Saga's demo tomorrow, and full release next year.
