Vampire Survivors Update 0.5.0 has arrived, adding the new relic and major gameplay feature "Arcana" to the intense shoot 'em up experience.
If you haven't yet played Vampire Survivors, you're missing out on a pretty cool little SHMUP. Previous updates have added new characters and new stages, and now Patch 0.5.0 has arrived with a new mechanic for us to enjoy.
What's New in Vampire Survivors Update 0.5.0?
Vampire Survivors Update 0.5.0 adds a handful of new features, the most significant of which is Arcana. (There will be light spoilers about how to unlock these new goodies going forward, so stop reading here if you want to discover it for yourself.)
Arcana can be unlocked by finding the Randomazzo at the top of Stage 4. Once you do, you'll gain the ability to unlock a total of 6 Arcanas. These can be chosen at the start of any new one, and you can carry a maximum of 3 Arcanas at a time.
This new mechanic is also somewhat difficult to balance without real-world data, so you should expect things to be a little shaky at the start.
"Because of the way I've originally tested the game mechanics in VS, most of what we've seen so far has somewhat always been from the realm of the expected," read today's announcement. "With Arcanas that's going to change a little."
"This new layer of game mechanics will be largely untested due to the large [number] of interactions it could have, so there might be major changes to them as we move forward in patches."
This update also adds one more level of Banish, a new weapon, and a bunch of small changes to spawn waves and drop rates; you can read about all of the changes in the full Vampire Survivors Update 0.5.0 patch notes. You can join in on the fun by buying Vampire Survivors for PC via Steam at the price of $2.69 or your regional equivalent, a 10% discount that lasts for the next two days.
