Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodhunt fully released on April 27th, and with time comes self-reflection. A 'Bloodhunt Launch Learnings' article has been released on the official website, which talks about a lot of crucial information that fans have been waiting for. Things such as Bloodhunt crossplay with friends, duo mode, more maps and modes, bugs and balance issues, and PS5 info were all discussed, so let's get right to it, shall we?

When is Bloodhunt crossplay with friends coming?

Right now players can play on PS5 and PC together, but friends can't group up cross-platform. Bloodhunt crossplay is just about on top of everyone's wishlist, but for Sharkmob (who are both the developer and publisher of this title) there's a lot of work that needs to be done first, with them sharing a few of the points:

  • As guests on a console platform that Sharkmob does not own, we need to ensure that we follow the rules set up by the platform holders.
  • We need to ensure that the platform holders’ privacy tools work seamlessly between both versions of the game, which includes things like block lists, muting functions, friend invites and online presence statuses.
  • We need to create and code the user interface to support all of this properly and ensure that everything gets properly and thoroughly tested.

Basically, if Bloodhunt crossplay with friends is coming, it's going to be later rather than sooner, if it ever arrives. That's too bad, but at least we've been given a heads-up on what to expect.

Sadly, crossplay friends will be hunting alone... for now.

What is being done for Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodhunt Ranked Mode?

Right now it takes a long time to find a ranked game at higher ranks. According to Sharkmob, that's because there are not enough high-ranked players at the moment. To accommodate this, the skill band during ranked matchmaking has been increased, so now there's a larger pool of players to play with. As for ranked matchmaking on PS5, crossplay has been disabled to see if it improves the overall experience for PS5 players. The playerbase is apparently quite large on the platform, so it shouldn't really affect matchmaking times. This is done as a stop-gap while they work on increasing the aim-assist to a higher level without it being too high.

When are we getting new maps and modes?

New maps, modes, and store items are coming. Sharkmob wants to get new maps and modes right, and they're going for a quality over quantity approach, which is fine, but means it is going to take longer for the maps, and modes. As for assets, Sharkmob is working on a new character rig, which will hopefully speed up the process of asset creation in the future for new characters.
