Valve, who has been continuing to push controllers as a viable alternative more and more, has brought up the list of the top games played with controllers in 2019.
While they don't go into specific numbers, or who's on the list and what their ranking is, they did collect the top 100 games played with controllers onto a single page. While they may not have been specific about ranking, they did at least reveal what the top 12 games were. The top 12 games played with controllers were as follows:
- Mortal Kombat 11
- Devil May Cry 5
- Rocket League
- Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
- Monster Hunter World
- Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night
- Resident Evil 2
- Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
- NBA 2K20
- Destiny 2
- Grand Theft Auto V
- Halo: The Master Chief Collection
The rest of the page breaks down some popular categories that get a lot of controller use, such as RPGs, sports and racing games, beat 'em ups, "souls and souls-likes", and more. It shows that games like Cuphead, the Dark Souls series, several Final Fantasy games, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and more are still popular with controller users. It's probably not much of a surprise that most of the top 12 are major releases, as they tend to be the most popular games period. It would be nice to at least see how big the difference between controller users and mouse and keyboard users are. If you're looking for a place to start with a new controller though, this may be it. It's just a shame that Valve didn't stand by the Steam Controller to give it a chance to be used in these games.
Does this list surprise you in any way? Were there any games you thought more people would use a controller for? Any games you think shouldn't be played with a controller at all? Let us know in the comments below!
