Valve Highlights Top 20 Steam Games For April 2019 - Mordhau And More

Valve has released a list of the top 20 Steam releases for April 2019. The list contains some surprises and some fairly predictable entries. This is the first time the company has divulged the best-selling Steam games in a particular month.

To generate the list, Valve says it gathered all the games released between April 1st and April 30th together. The company then looked at the revenue earned by each game during the first two weeks of its release. Finally, Valve sorted the top 20 best-selling games in April by release date to create the final list. It's a pretty diverse list, too, with battle royale games, visual novel adventure games, and brawlers rubbing shoulders.

The presence of medieval battler Mordhau isn't a surprise given its remarkable financial performance. The popularity of Mortal Kombat 11 shouldn't come as a shock to anyone either given its high quality and being the top-selling game across all platforms in April. Fans of strategy games will be glad to see Islanders and Imperator: Rome here, while lovers of idiosyncratic Japanese games will appreciate the presence of the brilliant Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy and the superbly weird Zanki Zero: Last Beginning. The list also features some fun leftfield entries like April Fools gag game Totally Accurate Battle Simulator and the rather good weed management sim Weedcraft Inc. There's plenty more to pore over, so go check out the full 20-game list if you're interested. The list also contains links to each game's Steam store page if you want to buy them.

Valve says it's "continually fascinated" by which Steam releases become popular. Each month, the most popular releases differ wildly. Sometimes they're global phenomena and sometimes they take off in a single region alone. It's not possible to predict them based on genre or theme, either. The list does make for some pretty interesting reading, and it makes us wonder what May's top 20 best-selling Steam games will look like.
