In the second least surprising reveal today, Sega America has announced Valkyria Chronicles Remastered is coming to North America and Europe. After some really strong success with the title on PC, which surprised Sega as the title our performed Call of Duty on both's launch period, it was sort of expected that it would indeed be coming out this way. The trailer for it shows the game with it's updated graphics and says that it is coming to the Playstation 4.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcqUN-fqPFE
Included in Valkyria Chronicles Remastered, which is coming this Spring, is the core Valkyria Chronicles game and story at 1080p/60 FPS matching what the PC has. It will include all previously released DLC: Hard EX Mode, Edy's Mission "Enter the Edy Detachment", Selvaria's Mission "Behind Her Blue Flame", and Challenge of the Edy Detachment. It appears that it is basically the same work that the PC got when Sega brought it there, where as mentioned the series sold surprisingly well having sold around 600k copies that have been activated on Steam according to Steam Spy. While there is no footage of the North American release, footage recorded from the Japanese Nico Nico Livestream has been recorded by Dualshockers,https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6Yej1Y2k5o
Valkyria Chronicles mixes turnbased strategy with more action game play with its unique BLiTZ combat system where you pick characters each round to take their turn and move around in a real-timeish battlefield with reaction shots, and hazards where you line up the best shot you can in it. There is a somewhat cliche, but well done story in the game covering themes of war, bigotry and other topics without being a rammed down message game like some titles become.
Valkyria Chronicles Remastered will be selling for $29.99 US, $44.99 Canadian, and no price announced yet for Europe in both physical and digital forms. A special Squad 7 Armored Case featuring Valkyria Chronicles artwork will only be around for a pre-orders and a limited quantity at retail locations on launch.
I really liked Valkyria Chronicles when I reviewed it on PC back in 2014 and it's nice to see that the PC version doing well has revived this franchise. I fully expect to see Valkyria: Azure Revolution to come west as well, and that title on PC in addition to Playstation. As for Valkyria Chronicles Remastered it makes little sense on PC as it's essentially the same thing we have on PC... only costing more on consoles probably because of work needed to get it there and because Sega is more cognizant of the brand's value now than it was when it tossed it onto PC with light marketing.
