Valkyria Chronicles 4 News Announcement

Sega recently announced that their anime-influenced tactical RPG Valkyria Chronicles 4 will deploy in Western markets on September 25th. This release comes roughly six months after its launch in Japan. The worldwide release will come to PS4, PC, Switch, and Xbox One. It will mark the first time that a Valkyria Chronicles game will launch on either the Xbox One or Switch. Not only that, but Japan will also get their hands on the Switch version two days after the worldwide release, after a series of delays. Picking up Valkyria Chronicles 4 on launch will also net you a vinyl skin for your controller. Regardless of your preferred platform, Valkyria Chronicles 4 will release on September 25th worldwide.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 takes place at the same time as the original Valkyria Chronicles but in a different part of the world. Whereas the first game covered the events in Gallia, here we follow Squad E in the Atlantic Federation. Sent on a suicide mission through the frozen tundra, you command Claude Wallace's team in a last-ditch effort to end the war and defeat the Empire. This marks the return of Valkyria Chronicles' same action combat alongside a multitude of classes and weapons to use.

The original Valkyria Chronicles was a surprise hit for Sega and an outstanding game in its own right. While its sequels and Valkyria Revolution have stumbled somewhat, Sega hoped to mark a return to form with VC4. Released earlier this year to positive reviews in Japan, it nonetheless suffered from "unsatisfactory sales," according to Media Create. It's not clear if this is due to a tone shift away from academy settings or some other reason. Still, with the original Valkyria Chronicles doing gangbusters on PC, Sega may well shift to supporting Western releases over Japanese ones. In any case, we'll be able to get our hands on Valkyria Chronicles 4 on September 25th.
