The Valheim Roadmap has been revealed just as this brand-new survival and exploration game has proved a surprisingly popular new release on Steam.
After falling in battle, you've found yourself in the titular realm of Valheim. Valheim is the fictional tenth realm of Norse cosmology and effectively serves as a purgatory of sorts. Unfortunately, it also happens to be plagued by Odin's enemies — it's up to you to start your life anew, arm yourself, and take down some seriously tough world bosses!

Valheim looks like it's already had a pretty successful launch on Steam. It's currently #2 on Top Sellers, placing it just below the newly-announced Total War: Warhammer 3. Steam Charts reports that there are already 16,029 players at its peak for the first day and that number is probably going to grow.
This game drops you into a new realm packed with bountiful nature and deadly enemies. The procedurally-generated world provides plenty of space for you to build a settlement or even a mighty fortress, and you're probably going to need it if you want to be well-armed to face the strongest evils of the world. And yes, you can build a longboat and sail out onto the ocean, too.
You don't have to play Valheim alone, either. This game has co-op support for 2–10 players, although the developers recommend that you stick to 3–5 players for now. The extra help will surely come in handy when you're exploring some of the more dangerous environments!
The Valheim Roadmap Lays Out the Future
The Valheim 2021 Roadmap lays out some firm plans for the game's next four updates throughout the year. Things get a little more interesting even further on down the line, but there's not yet a mention of a specific release date for that content. Here's what's planned for the next four updates:
- Update 1 – Hearth and Home
- Update 2 – Cult of the Wolf
- Update 3 – Ships and the Sea
- Update 4 – New "Mistlands" Biome
Beyond that, there's also the "If Odins Wills It" category that covers future content the developers would like to make without any specific timeframe.
- Multiplayer Interactions
- Combat Improvements
- Moon Phases
- Tar Pits
- Vendor Inventory Expansion
- Svartalfr Brigands
- More Unique Locations
- Sandbox Mode
That looks like a pretty solid plan for the future! As with all things, though, we can't say how things will turn out until the developers actually deliver. For now, you can buy Valheim on Steam Early Access for just $19.99 or your regional equivalent.
