[UPDATED] Xbox Live Matchmaking Down on Xbox One

Published: March 28, 2016 12:06 PM /

Update: The Xbox Live service's matchmaking has resumed normal functionality according to the Xbox Live Service Status website.

Xbox Live is currently having issues with matchmaking for the Xbox One according to the status website for the Xbox Live service.

The notification about the service was posted today at 8:53 AM Eastern Time. Currently, there are still problems joining other players in online games via matchmaking. The only affected platform at the moment is the Xbox One.

If you are logged in to the Xbox Live Service Status website with your Microsoft account you can provide your phone number and receive a SMS notification when the service goes back online. Your phone number will be deleted from Microsoft's records after the notification is sent out.

This isn't the first outage that Xbox Live has had this year. According to VG 24/7, February was particularly rough for the service with outages and issues of varying degrees on February 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th, 21st, and 23rd. The outages on the 23rd lasted at least 5 hours and impacted downloading games, making purchases through the store, and even just being able to sign in to the service.

The outages prompted a discussion thread on the /r/xboxone subreddit that rhetorically asked if Microsoft had considered compensating Xbox Live subscribers with free gametime equivalent to the amount of downtime. Several users cited that Blizzard gave free game time to subscribers to compensate for outages during the release of Warlords of DraenorOther users brought up previous times where Microsoft themselves gave away game time or other goodies due to service problems such as when they gave seven days of Xbox Live Gold during log-in issues on Titanfall's launch day.

Xbox Live Director of programming Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb responded in that particular thread that he forwarded "some of the more thoughtful comments" to the Xbox team. As one would expect, a new thread on the /r/xboxone subreddit has emerged for today's issues echoing many of the same complaints from three weeks ago.

How do you feel about the uptime of Xbox Live? Do you feel it is relatively reliably, or do you think that it is down too often? Let us know in the comments below!
