Update: We just received word that the IGN interview with Peter Moore was filmed prior to Patrick Söderlund's GamesCon comments. While this does not confirm nor deny the possibility Mass Effect Remasters, it certainly highlights once again that EA may be interested in the possibility. We have reached out to EA for a comment on these conflicting messages.
Original: Despite the recent rumors circulating on a possible Mass Effect remaster, it would seem that we're unlikely to expect a remaster anytime soon.
In a recent video interview from IGN, EA's Chief Competition Officer Peter Moore explained that the company has no plans on remastering the trilogy. While he admits that doing a remaster would be easy money for EA, Moore says that moving forward with new IPs is the company's primary focus.
While he acknowledged that there are "thousands of people" who would like it, Moore says that there are so many other opportunities to go instead of taking the easy route with remasters.
We want to focus on the future and new IPs. There's easy money to be made all over this industry. But the real focus here should be player first, new IPs and new experiences. That's what our real focus is.
Moore also briefly touched Mass Effect: Andromeda, noting that everyone in Bioware is especially focused on developing that. With that said, he also emphasized that EA just doesn't have teams laying around to help develop a proper remaster.
Mass Effect: Andromeda is expected to come out in early 2017 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
Quick Take
At this point of time, I feel that a remaster of the Mass Effect trilogy isn't something that's really needed. Personally, I agree with Moores comments and feel that EA are on the right mindset by focusing on future releases. While I could understand Sony's intentions on the Uncharted and God of War Remasters because a lot of PlayStation 4 players were Xbox 360 players; the fact remains that Mass Effect was still a series available on both consoles.
What are your thoughts on this? Would a remastered edition of the Mass Effect trilogy be something you'd want from EA? What are your thoughts on Andromeda? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
