Update: The collection of Telltale games delisted now has an explanation as reported by GameDaily. Telltale has entered into a process known as "assignment" which is similar to bankruptcy but lacking in several protections. Part of the process will mean that the former employees' COBRA health insurance - normally mandated to last for 18 months - will instead end on November 30 thanks to this process. You can read more about it here.
Update 2 (16/11/2018):
The Walking Dead series by Telltale has been removed from sale on Steam. This is all of the seasons, with the only remaining aspect being The Walking Dead: The Final Season demo still being available. That being said, other storefronts such as GOG still have them for sale if you are concerned about the availability of the games in the longterm.
We have reached out to Skybound Games, who is finishing The Walking Dead: The Final Season and owned by Robert Kirkman's Skybound, for comment on the situation and when or if we can expect to see The Walking Dead by Telltale return to stores.
Our original story continues below.
Back to the Future: The Game is one of several Telltale games delisted from Steam according to a tweet from Matthew "Pixelbuster" Margolis.
Telltale has had its fair share of trouble recently. The company suffered a heavy wave of layoffs in mid-September and then found itself allegedly hit with a million-dollar fine surrounding leaks on the Stranger Things game. Now it seems their troubles are continuing with a quite a few Telltale games delisted from Steam.
The information comes from SteamDB, a third-party site that tracks the changes behind the scenes at Valve's digital distribution service. Three games in total have been made unavailable for sale on the platform, although their episodic nature warranted quite a few more entries being listed at the SteamDB homepage.
Back to the Future: The Game, Tales of Monkey Island, and Jurassic Park: The Game have all gotten the axe. While their Steam store pages are currently still up, customers are unable to purchase the games on these platforms. Here is a short rundown of the titles and the places you can still buy them for the moment:
- Back to the Future: The Game (GOG, Microsoft Store, PlayStation Store) - Doc Brown and Marty McFly are back in a completely new tale set six months after the third film in the franchise. Many of the core characters from the movies are integral to the plot and Christopher Lloyd lent his voice-acting talents for the legendary Doc Brown. There are five episodes in total.
- Jurassic Park: The Game (Microsoft Store, PlayStation Store) - An original adventure set during the events of the first Jurassic Park movie, Jurassic Park: The Game takes players through 4 episodes packed with ravenous raptors and terrifying T-Rexes.
- Tales of Monkey Island (GOG, PlayStation Store) - Monkey Island is one of the classics of the adventure game genre and this title comprises five episodes, each taking place over the course of a month. Play as the legendarily unfortunate Guybrush Threepwood, a man who has unluckily unleashed voodoo magic on the entire Caribbean.
We're not sure if these will be the only Telltale games delisted; more may be coming in the future. The Humble Store has also pulled their listings, so odds are that GOG, the Microsoft Store, and the PlayStation store will be taking them down pretty soon. If you don't own any of these games, now is probably the time to pick them up.
