Today on a blog post on battle.net, it was announced that the upcoming Overwatch beta will feature voice chat via Battle.net. As of right now there isn't much info besides the brief FAQ they posted, but they say that more information will be shared "further down the road."
There is no word on whether Battle.net voice chat will be made available to other Blizzard games after the beta as it is still to early in development. There are no details on how it will work in the Overwatch beta, and Blizzard stated that you will not see a difference in your desktop app as it is only an addition to the apps DLL's.
The Overwatch beta starts October 27, and you'll only be able to try out this new voice chat if you're in the Overwatch beta, so if you're interested and still haven't signed up you can do so here.
Updated: It has been revealed recently that Europe will be getting the Overwatch beta the same day, October 27, as North America.
It's good to see Overwatch will have dedicated voice chat, as it seems a slight trend is starting with games launching with no dedicated voice chat support such as Destiny or the upcoming Battlefront. Altough it remains to be seen how well the new voice chat will function or any real details on it at all, but hopefully we won't have to wait long before Blizzard divulges some more information. Overwatch looks pretty awesome so I'm excited to see how things go during the beta and how it really plays. Overwatch is another in a growing list of Team Fortress 2-esque games such as Battleborn, and Lawbreakers so it's exciting to see how games in this growing genre try to separate themselves from the pack.
How do you feel about Overwatch getting dedicated voice chat from Battle.net? Are you participating in the Overwatch beta? What other Blizzard games would you like to see it implemented in, if any?
