Medieval Engineers has expanded its game world in the Planets update which was released today according to a press release by Keen Software House.

The Planets update serves as an effective relaunch of the game. The core feature of this new endeavor is arguably a much larger map size; this will give players a lot more breathing room for building. Players will also be able to lay claim to territory, and a decay system has been introduced as well.

The update was preceded by the release of three trailers detailing some of the new features in the game. Take a peek at the third trailer to get a peek at some of the new features:

Getting around the map will be easier thanks to a new fast travel option, and if you plan to navigate on foot you'll be able to make use of the new compass and world map features. Players will have a variety of new aesthetic options available for their characters and in-game groups including a wardrobe and customizable banners. The game has also added a female engineer model to give players a bit more choice in how they choose to represent themselves.

Building has gotten a bit of an overhaul. New claim blocks will help you mark out your territory. New rotation animations and a contextual GUI should make your in-game workflow a little bit smoother. A few new advanced world settings are available as well. Lastly, the tinkerers out there will be able to get mods to interact with nearly all of the new features added in the update.

A livestream to showcase the new update will take place at Keen Software House's official Twitch channel on October 18th from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM Eastern Time.

The addition of multiple planets brings Medieval Engineers closer in line with its futuristic brother Space Engineers which released a planets update in November of 2015. Correction: The title of this article was originally "Medieval Engineers Releasing Giant Update Including Planets". It was changed to "Medieval Engineers Releases Planets Update" to better reflect the content of the update. Additionally, a feature listed as "Planets" in the original press release is only in fact one planet.

What do you think of the changes introduced to Medieval Engineers? Do you think that the game is missing any important features at this point in time? What would you like to see in the next update? Let us know in the comments below!
