Update 10/27/2016: At the time the original article was written, the Steam store and Cygames reported that Shadowverse would be available today, October 27, 2016. It's now reporting that it will be available October 28, 2016; the official Shadowverse Twitter account says this delay is due to "unforeseen developments". We apologize for the confusion this article may have caused.

The original article follows below.

Shadowverse, the mobile collectible card game from development team Cygames, is now available to play on Steam. Originally released on June 17, 2016,  the mobile title has garnered a healthy community on reddit and is beginning to boast a fledgling competitive scene. While the game is free-to-play, there are a number of optional in-app micro-transactions for items, ranging from $0.99 to $79.99. A gameplay trailer from Cygames can be viewed below, and the Shadowverse forums have a number of guides for introducing new players to the game.

Shadowverse currently has a library of five hundred plus cards for players to build their decks from and has just released its most recent expansion, Darkness Evolved. All cards are subdivided into seven classes (and an unaffiliated "neutral" class): Forestcraft, Swordcraft, Runecraft, Dragoncraft, Shadowcraft, Bloodcraft, and Havencraft. Each class is additionally associated with a character: Arisa for Forestcraft, Erika for Swordcraft, Isabelle for Runecraft, Rowen for Dragoncraft, Luna for Shadowcraft, Urias for Bloodcraft, and Eris for Havencraft.

Like Hearthstone, Shadowverse features a number of campaigns for players to play through, with rewards for successfully completing chapters. What sets Shadowverse apart from other card games like Hearthstone and Magic: The Gathering is that players have the ability to "evolve" their cards mid-game using evolution points, which increases the attack and defense of their creatures (called "followers" in game) for the duration of the game. Card evolution can only be used a few times per game, so choosing which cards to evolve is a major part of game strategy.

In addition to being available on Steam, Shadowverse is also available on the App Store for the iPhone and iPad, and Google Play for Android devices. As an incentive to have players use the PC version of the game, Cygames will be giving out five Standard Card Pack Tickets to players who log on using the PC version from today through November 30, 6:59 AM PT.
