Hogwarts Legacy has made a triumphant return to the top of the UK sales charts this week owing to its recent release on last-gen consoles. The wizarding RPG has beaten games like Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Dead Island 2, and the perennially popular Mario Kart 8 Deluxe to claim its position at the peak of the chart.
This is according to data from the analysis group GfK Entertainment, which tracks boxed physical releases in the UK. Hogwarts Legacy's position at the top should probably come as no surprise given its incredibly strong sales performance, but it'll be encouraging for Warner Bros and Avalanche to see it leap back up to number one regardless.
In second place this week is Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, indicating that its disastrous PC performance at launch hasn't stopped gamers from purchasing it en masse. Dead Island 2 takes third place, which isn't bad considering that last week was the game's third week on general release. Not a bad coda for a project that many had written off as vaporware before its re-emergence.
In fourth place is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which refuses to die despite having been on release for more than six years. Fifth place goes to FIFA 23, another perennially popular franchise in the UK charts, with Super Mario Odyssey claiming sixth place. It's impressive that Mario's latest 3D platformer is still pulling top ten sales at this point, although the release of the Super Mario Bros movie has probably helped it along.
Seventh place last week was occupied by WWE 2K23, which appears to be continuing 2K's redemption story after the glut of terrible WWE games that came before WWE 2K22. Grand Theft Auto V is in eighth place, with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Minecraft Legends coming in ninth and tenth. Microsoft shouldn't be too cut up about Legends' low spot, though, given that it's also available on Xbox Game Pass.
