Final Fantasy XVI's dominance (no pun intended) over the UK boxed charts was short-lived, it seems. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has swooped down from the skies to retake the top spot from Square Enix's latest epic in the charts, and there are two new entries as well, although whether they'll trouble these two eikons remains to be seen.
According to GfK Entertainment Software's latest data, after Final Fantasy XVI's impressive sales performance saw it take the number one spot in the UK boxed charts last week, Tears of the Kingdom is once again at number one this week. Final Fantasy XVI is sitting pretty in second place, though, so Square Enix shouldn't be too worried just yet.
In third place is a newcomer, AEW: Fight Forever, intended to be a competitor to 2K's WWE 2K series. Fourth place is occupied by God of War Ragnarok, which is up from the sixth spot last week. Looks like people are still really digging Kratos and Atreus' adventure through the Nine Realms.
Fifth place is occupied by Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, an evergreen performer that shows the demand for getting whacked by a blue shell on the finish line of the third lap will never cease. At number six last week was FIFA 23, the final installment of the FIFA series as we know it (before EA turns it into EA Sports FC, that is).
Number seven in the UK boxed charts last week was another newcomer, Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life. This remake of the sixth-generation farming sim left our reviewer Isaac pretty indifferent, but it's made a ripple in the charts, so hey ho. We'll have to see where it ends up next week.
Lastly, number nine is the perennially popular Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (that's the 2022 version, not the 2009 version, of course), and number ten is occupied by Sonic Origins Plus. That rounds off the UK charts for this week! Join us again next week when we'll inevitably continue celebrating the twin success of Zelda and Final Fantasy.
