Ubisoft Delays Watch Dogs: Legion to Next Fiscal Year

Last we heard from Watch Dogs: Legion, Ubisoft was facing backlash in China for a game ad that was allegedly political. Yesterday the company released a statement to update its financial targets for 2020-21, as well as its release schedule for 2019-20. The statement explains the company's decision to postpone the release not just of Watch Dogs: Legion, but also of Gods & Monsters and Rainbow Six Quarantine. Earlier this year, Ubisoft also announced a delay for Skull & Bones.

Additionally, there are two other announced titles for the fiscal year of 2020-2021, and that would be alongside the delayed titles as well as Just Dance 2020 and Roller Champions.

Previously, Ubisoft had also delayed Assassin's Creed Origins, which resulted in a much better release. As the success of Origins became clear, it motivated delays for other flagship titles such as Far Cry 5 and The Crew 2. It looks like after the recent launch issues with the release of The Division 2 and especially Ghost Recon Breakpoint, they are back with this business model to deliver better titles, which is game development wisdom at its best, as per Shigeru Miyamoto's dictum.

The development teams of Watch Dogs: Legion also released a statement on the game's official Twitter page.

The Play As Anyone feature does seem extremely ambitious and unique in a game of this scale and magnitude, so Ubisoft is right to give the development team more time to perfect and polish the vision that they intend to deliver. However, it remains to be seen whether that will be enough to appease fans who were expecting a March 6, 2020 release.

Are you disappointed by the delay of Watch Dogs: Legion? Do you think the Play As Anyone feature will make up for this delay? Let us know in the comments below!
