Torment: Tides of Numenera Receiving Console Versions

Torment: Tides of Numenera is heading to home consoles.

InXile has announced that a console port of their upcoming RPG will be released on both the PS4 and Xbox One simultaneously with the PC version next year.

A trailer was also released for the console versions, which shows off a lot more gameplay than ever before.

The reason for the console port, according to InXile lead developer Brian Fargo, was due to the success of Wasteland 2 on consoles.

"Wasteland 2: Director's Cut success and the gratitude expressed by a lot of fans after this release made us begin to plan the Torment: Tides of Numenera for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One," Fargo said. "We're especially excited to work with Techland, who - as a fellow developers - know exactly how to execute such a release without compromising the quality."

Tides of Numenera was the second major Kickstarter by InXile entertainment, which was funded back in April of 2013 for over $4 million dollars. The game was recently delayed to 2017, when InXile announced a partnership with the publisher Techland to distribute Tides of Numenera internationally for a simultaneous release.

Tides of Numenera has been touted as a spiritual successor of the iconic Black Isle RPG, Planescape: Torment. The game is based on the Numenera setting by famous role-playing author Monte Cook, and is set billions of years in the future, creating a science-fantasy world for players to explore. Much like Planescape, Tides of Numenera is emphasizing non-combat choices and dialogue and even has similar themes about life and death.

InXile was firm that this will not affect the release date of Torment: Tides of Numenera as the people working on it are those whose jobs in the pipeline were becoming clear as they work on polishing Torment: Tides of Numenerafor a full release.
