The Tony Hawk's Pro Skater documentary Pretending I'm A Superman has been announced by D'Amato Productions. This trip down nostalgia lane is set to show us the story behind one of gaming's raddest franchises.

Check out the trailer for Pretending I'm A Superman to get a taste for what's coming:

The documentary is being headed up by Ralph D'Amato as Producer with Ludvig Gür taking on directorial duties and Austin Droguett serving as the Director of Photography.

Tony Hawk himself says that he was a longtime gamer and lamented the lack of video games featuring the sport in his youth, citing titles like 720Skate or Die, and California Games as the only real options available. His love of gaming and skateboarding finally came together in something magical — and we get to learn about how it was all created in the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater documentary Pretending I'm A Superman.

What Will the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater Documentary Pretending I'm A Superman Show Us?

"I don't there was anybody really at Neversoft who had ever skateboarded before, and I remembered Jill said, 'There wouldn't be any market for a game like that because it's just such a small, niche market'." — Mick West, Founder of Neversoft

So, what is Pretending I'm A Superman going to be all about? Obviously it's going to cover the creation of the game, but the trailer also shows us a bit about the history of the sport and Tony Hawk's early life. Interviews include Neversoft employees, Tony Hawk himself (of course!), and other professional skaters like Chad Muska and Jamie Thomas.

The documentary's official website also has some more information about what we can expect to see:

Pretending I'm a Superman tells the story of all of this, how skateboarding became a part of the mainstream (where it has stayed ever since), the development of the first Tony Hawk's Pro Skater game, its future titles and where skateboarding is at today. The story is told through brand new interviews with skaters such as Tony Hawk, Eric Koston, Steve Caballero, Rodney Mullen and many more.

The website also says that it's expected to be released sometime in 2019, but that seems just a wee bit outdated. Odds are, we can expect to see it arrive sometime this year.
