The Tomorrow Corporation has announced its latest game, titled Welcome To The Information Superhighway.
Information on the exact nature of the game is currently fairly sparse. We do know that Welcome To The Information Superhighway was deep in development when The Tomorrow Corporation was putting the finishing touches on 7 Billion Humans. The aforementioned blog post promises the ability to "go on an incredible road trip and make lots of broken new friends along the way", and that the game will take place on a highway "we last visited...a long time ago, in a very different game".
This rather cryptic phrase implies that the game will either be a direct or indirect sequel to one of The Tomorrow Corporation's other properties. Currently, the company has 3 published games under its belt: subversive puzzler Little Inferno, subversive puzzler Human Resource Machine, and the sequel to said subversive puzzler 7 Billion Humans, which is also, err, a subversive puzzler.
The official blog post which announced the game also showed off some rather evocative concept art, in The Tomorrow Corporation's distinctive visual style. The concept art includes a rather garishly-dressed person of indeterminate gender, a jagged road leading to a giant illuminated cat, and a winding, hilly path with giant monumental figures taking selfies on smartphones in the background.
The elusive developer has a history of including social commentary and political satire in their games. Little Inferno had the transience of entertainment and consumerism at its core, while Human Resource Machine looked at the politics of work and human beings as office drones. With that in mind, as well as the game's title, it's not a huge leap to suggest that Welcome To The Information Superhighway might be focusing on the Internet, cats, and selfies being cornerstones of Internet culture.
Of course, that's just pure speculation, as we still don't know too much about the game as of yet. We'll have more news on this as we get it.
