Tokyo Tekken Masters 2017 Results

Gaming article by Matthew Fetrow on Monday, September 4, 2017 - 18:30

Tokyo Tekken Masters in Akihabara, Tokyo, Japan has concluded, and as a master tier event for the Tekken World Tour, it attracted a mind-boggling amount of talent; more than one would think possible could fit in one room for such a modest event. Such a turnout is expected, as a win here could help cement qualification for the year end's big world finals: The King of Iron Fist 2017.

Streaming was done by the official Tekken channel on Twitch. As usual, players will be listed in “[sponsor/team name] | [player name] [[characters used]]” format.

Tekken 7

Due to being a specialized event featuring one game, top 16 will be listed instead of top 8.

The star-studded, talent-laden event concluded with a rematch of the King of Iron Fist World Finals between winner Saint and runner-up Chanel, but unfortunately for the latter, the result was still the same. Continuing to dominate around the world with his teammate, Saint proves once again that he's not losing steam. The top 8 in general was heavily dominated by Korea, with the three players – Noroma, Recruit, and Take – native to the event's setting, Japan, finishing 5th and 7th. Along with the champion, Take is the only Evo 2017 finalist to break into finals here, as well. A third Evo finalist, Jeondding, finished in 9th.

Other top players who showed up at the event but didn't make top 16 include: Tanukana, Tsubumi, Knee, AK, Kurokuro, and Nobi. With competition as stiff as it was, it's no wonder these elites weren't able to push through to finals.

I've been playing video games since 4 years of age, and finally began to deeply invest myself into the world of fighting games in 2015 after many off-and-on encounters with games inside the genre. I have a preference for 3D fighters, but also enjoy Street Fighter, King of Fighters, and some airdashers. I'm also a big fan of RPGs and shmups.
